I can only guess, but maybe there was some disappointment/frustration among participants in earlier trials who saw an improvement in their girls, only to have the effects reverse once the trial finished and trofinetide was no longer available.
I notice there is no time limit on the second-open label trial. It sounds like Acadia is saying: 'if it's working, we won't cut you off until the drug is approve.'
