This is great news. To have LLNL given a grant and be appointed to conduct work on the water issues indicates that the US OSMRE are serious about expediting approvals for UCG. LLNL have had a long association with research into UCG and I am sure that the culture will be strongly in favour of finally commercialising something they have put so much research effort into.
IMO LNC needs to get a commercial UCG project going...SOMEWHERE...ANYWHERE.
