The best we can do is to improve safety protocols and innovating with safer technologies over time (like automated self driving rigs). The mining industry today is substantially safer than it was a 3 centuries ago around the invention of steam engine pumps by new comen in 1712...does this mean we should be luddites and prohibit any mining activities until it is 100% safe ?

we may also as such prohibit the selling and the driving of cars until we invent fully self driving 99.9999% safer cars....perfection is the enemy of progress...nothing is perfect in our world.
