My brother had the habit of typing random characters in the subject-matter part of his emails, and as UIOP are adjacent keys, a repeated four-finger tapping spurt produced PIOUPIOU.

It looked like it should be a word, so I searched the Internet, and found it was a nickname often given to comic characters, especially if they are young males of the domestic fowl species, and they are inclined to be cocky and stupid. A woman I know who lives in Paris said it was applied to cocky young men. Further research informed me that in WW1, it was used to mean a French infantryman, the French equivalent of a British Tommy. Its origin is probably onomatopoeic, based on the noise that newly hatched chickens make.

I adopted the name to show the world how proud I was of my humility - a likeable but patently incompetent being.
