    Hi 86.

Plasma for sports and/or lots of movement in scenes,eg action DVD's and depth of blacks.Downside lots of heat output.Stand close to a plasma then an LCD!Plasma uses 20-30% more power,USUALLY.

LCD for detail but you dont get quite as good smoothness in scenes with lots of motion. But the good LCD's(backlit anyway) are getting very close to plasma in both depth of blacks aand movement.

100Hz is pretty standard refresh.200 adds only a few more frames so not all that its hyped up to be.

    LCD's?

When I last walked into a store the series 9 Samsung backlit was awesome compared to the others and the Sony XBR and Z,which is relacing the XBR, were good too.Sony's backlit is $1000 to $1500 more than the Samsung but then you are getting the Sony name???

Rarely see the high end plasma's such as the Pioneer Kuro's anymore but reputedly one of the best.Have to be quick though as they are chucking it in I believe.

Watch the stores cos they can often set up the TV's so that the store lighting and the personal settings on the TV are set up to show one TV up better than another.Try and compare your end choices in similar conditions that you expect to use yours at home,in the store.Notice how some TV departments are in the darkest area of the store. If your room will have a fair bit of sunlight get them to turn on all the lights on to emulate your conditions at home.DONT be afraid to ask after all its your money, and probably lots of it.

If your going to be sitting 3-4 meters away (a standard size room in a 3 bed house?) Id go for a 46"maximum(high resolution).Sitting any further away 50" plus. This depends on how much you have to throw at cash wise too obviously.

Im still using our 81 cm Sony TV(90Kg!!! cathode) with the foxtel box as its till great quality and our viewing room isnt that large,so its fine anyway.I cant see the rush to buy a large LCD or plasma if you have or are getting,a set top box,if you already have a good cathode TV.Im waiting for the current high end Sony's and Samsungs to get down to $3000,which they will in time, unless we get the high inflation that many here are talking about once all the cash hits the economies with the Ruddy/Obama recovery packages.Watch the dollar too.If the Aus $ goes back up to 80c US plus TV prices will come down too.

    Lots to think about!!!

    Good luck.

Let us know what you get and if happy with it cos I'll be doing same in a year or so.

If you want to save some big dollars then go with an internet company once youve decided but make VERY sure they have insurance and their reputation is very good.If not you can still get some very good prices at the discount stores JB,Good guys seeming to be the best. But dont expect great service. If you want good installation service go to a well respected specialist entertainment gear store unless competant yourself to set it up.But you'll pay a fair bit more for that service usually. To be expected.
