Part of the public's support for Turnbull is his massively superior stance on tackling climate change and the more humane treatment of asylum seekers. People also see Turnbull as an advocate for moving Australia's Colonial era Constitution away from subserviences to the UK and of course know that he has financial expertise not apparent in Abbott's Captain's pick for Treasurer.

But if Turnbull prostitutes himself to the rabid right just to gain power any lift in the polls will be very short-lived.
