Justis; I foresee several possible scenarios:

1. Abbott pre-emptively and unilaterally declares the DD election he PROMISED in 2013 - launching an unprecedented smear campaign based on his TURC, losing all of the LNP's marginal seats but narrowly retaining office but with one Hell of a problem in the Senate [the rise of Xenophonophobia and even worse government than we have now].

2. As above but narrowly losing the election. The LNP loses nearly all of its marginal seats and progressive new MPs, The next iteration of reactionary leader is installed as Malcolm Turnbull is expelled from the LP by the rabid rump.

3. Abbott staggers on until early in 2016 as LP MPs fail to challenge and either scenario 1 or 2 above plays out.

4. A [Malcolm Turnbull + Scott Morrison] challenge emerges either late in 2015 or early in 2016 and is defeated - IMO this is the LNP's Doomsday scenario that would install the ALP backed by The Greens & Xenophon for at least a decade.

5. As with '4' above, except that Abbott is exorcized from the leadership, Turnbull manages to retrieve the situation and secure a narrow election win based on a forward-looking vision and policies gazumping Shorten.

6. Abbott declares martial law and installs himself aka the Fijian scenario; claiming war in the Middle East and alleged trade union / ALP leadership corruption as justification. All Hell breaks loose in Australia.
