There has been overseas interests coming over to project simple upgrades on existing tracks to jump up the the speed of existing infrastructure but clearly the will is not there.
Every report that I have read has said that overseas people are not interested unless the government protects them financially
IMHO fast trains are mainly aimed at business where the passenget does not pay his/her fare the company pays
I would be far happier to see the total interstate rail network being taken over be the federal system and made efficient with car carriers on most trains. and modern comfortable travel at a cost effective price
"Normal" people do not need speed they need comfort, budget pricing and good service
