'Getting Started in Technical Analysis' by Schwager is a great book to begin with if you are starting from scratch. Also have a trawl through nvestopedia.com and you will find huge amounts of useful information.
And you can do a lot worse than look at the charts posted on weekend charting every week. Pretty soon you'll get the gist of where to put your trendlines.
