Yarding numbers jumped on Tuesday with what was possibly the largest offload from a single vendor at a Roma sale this year.

Cattle JV Pty Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Rural Funds Management, offloaded 2259 head of EU Droughtmaster heifers and steers from Rewan, Rolleston, ahead of Australian Agricultural Company commencing a 10 year lease of the property.

The offload included 1339 No.8 and No.9 heifers and 920 No.9 steers that were in strong demand from a large buying panel.

The steers, weighing an average of 212kg, sold to a top of 280c/kg for $656/head and averaged 256c/kg, while the heifers, ranging from 170 to 400kg, reached 232c/kg to make $937/head and average 201c/kg.

Rewan manager Mick Millewski said another 1300 Brahmans would be offloaded at the Emerald store sale next week and would be the last big run of Rewan cattle to be sold.

"Rewan has been used to background feeder cattle from the northern RFM blocks for feedlots," Mr Millewski said.

"We also ran a few breeders, the original Rewan breeders that RFM kept."

The highly regarded, high rainfall property was lucky enough to sit under several good falls earlier in the year.

Mr Millewski said they had received three lots of 140mm off the back of cyclone activity. "We had pretty good rain and were able to get in a bit over 2500 acres of oats and feed a few there," he said.

Elders agent Garry Cartwright, Dalby, said despite a concern that the market wouldn't hold for such a large run, they had seen a good result.

"Obviously dry conditions around everywhere has taken its toll on markets all over the place," he said.

"When you sell a big run of cattle, 2300 head of cattle in one mob, it's certainly a drawing card and it gets people in.

"There's probably people here today that we haven't seen here before and it's due to the fact that there's been a large run."

Mr Cartwright said the buyers had come from a widespread area.

"The bigger lots went to feedlots, the majority of the number nines went to restockers; some went back up into Julia Creek, and I think I heard some went into Coonamble," he said.

AACo announced in July that it had taken a 10 year lease on the 17,500-hectare backgrounding and finishing property.

A statement issued by AACo said the Rewan lease demonstrated the company's commitment to its branded beef strategy.

"The property will increase AACo's ability to maintain quality and control of the value chain from paddock to plate, and produce premium beef for customers to enjoy at some of the best restaurants in Australia and across the world," the statement reads.

The Rewan lease was subject to Foreign Investment Review Board approval, and since gaining that approval, the company has begun the process of moving cattle onto the property.
