    but in many council areas if I did it may not be a given that I could get a removal permit. The reason my local council changed from a distance rule to a 45degree rule is that some years ago a tree removal was denied, and shortly thereafter the said tree fell onto the house with 1 death (the bloke who had the permit denied).

    I did have a 50m tree 3m from my house.... did have.

    The fire-fighting point is that it is easier to fight a long distance ember attack at your house than it is to fight a canopy fire 10 metres away from it. Tree clearing is linked to fire survival. It must juggle with the other aspects (shade, environment etc)
