Every voter in Indi received a letter from Tony Abbott detailing how good Sophie Mirabella was and demanding they return her as the MP for Indi. Mind you it was only one of something like 8 letters mailed to voters by the Liberals.
Once it became apparent that all was not well during the election campaign the Liberals poured absolutely massive additional resources into Indi; they even sent in Joe Hockey, Malcolm Turnbull, Greg Hunt and Barnaby Joyce.
Sophie had to cancel her out-of-Indi commitments to make appearances at the local forums she was set to miss.
The people of Indi couldn't go anywhere, watch television or listen to radio for more than a few minutes than they'd be bombarded with Liberal advertising.
Multiple whole page ads were run on a daily basis in local papers; one of which refused to publish letters from the 2010 Independent - apparently they didn't suit its agenda.
Later in the campaign they replaced most of the campaign posters featuring Mirabella's photo and erected anti-independent attack ads as well as those featuring the Liberals most senior leaders.
But as of tonight, Sophie Mirabella is all but gone; just pre-polls from the major centres of Wodonga, Wangaratta and Benalla remains to be counted and the votes there counted so far have been heavily against Mirabella.
