As correctly foreshadowed by Legman a year ago, the large Government spend on the Leigh Creek region now underway is mostly being spent on housing demolition, and services and asbestos removal from the township.
Two hundred houses being demolished, services such as electricity, water, stormwater, roadways being removed. Population now down to about 125. Another source says the count after demolition will be 59 houses, 36 flats [not unit blocks, individual flats] and 29 blocks of vacant land for potential sale. The remainder becomes vacant Crown Land, just like thousands of hectares of 'remote outback' surrounding it.
