Totally agree with lani62,

I reiterate the advice given to me a long time ago
"Only gamble what you can afford to lose".

And add this other gem :

You only lose money if you sell. Paper loses are recoverable if you have a strategy. Now seems a perfect time to help your averages. This is of course IMHO and every one must choose what is right for them.

I feel averaging down is only a good idea when the holder believes there is a good chance the SP will rise from current lows. I am in the group who firmly believes this is the case.

Oh, and just so you know, I may be surprised by the level of other peoples losses, but I have no joy seeing it happen to them.
