When CNX gets its' go-ahead after ticking 300 boxes in an environmental management plan there will be three trial UCG projects at different stages in Queensland:
-LNC will be attempting liquid fuel production and have ten years of a burn with Ergo technology
-CNX will be trying out a different, locally developed tech backed by ex-CSIRO brainpower
-CXY will be demonstrating for-real decommissioning of a burn chamber using the consultant model of accessing brain power.

It seems the report identified all UCG projects were allowed to start with less than normal environmental assessment, an industry promoting move on the part of the Qld Gov that backfired in the case of CXY. LNC got the benefit of a longer period of low oversight to get established and then moved out to a less critical environment.

Open cut coal miners, potentially including Tarong Power whose future mine may extend to several hundred metres from the CXY UCG site and others at Taroom, Emerald, Alpha, Ebenezer, Moura, etc etc etc will continue to dig up arable land and leave mountainous mullock heaps which will hoperfully support at least stabilizing vegetation but which are unlikely to be croppable again within the lifetime of our current civilisation.

A distant future for CXY might lie in 'peak coal' q.v. which will add speculative value to such tenements as CXY may be able to hold.
