It is journalists that make 'information' public. Since the reader/ viewer has limited alternative sources the responsibility is on the journalist (and the organisation) to portray a thoughtful accurate position. It is an issue of their duty of care. They do have the awkward position that their entire job hinges on writing stories so that the temptation to enhance towards the spectacular is considerable. An accurate dull story does not get printed. This pressure seems to alter the flavour of reporting by many journalists rather dramatically. One can see interviews almost every night in which the journalist is trying to trip up the interviewee by slight plays on words rather than get on with seeking the genuine information (which the journalist often does not comprehend).

One cannot criticise journalists of course as he/she would get trounced in return without defence. It is a strange irony that we need a 'free' media to make democracy work but there are virtually no checks on the media for truth, accuracy, and effect.

I don't think I need to explain that all journalists are not the same.
