Lessons from Plants

Here are some lessons I have learnt from a lifetime of contact with plants :

    O
ne should be flexible and bend like the bamboo: accepting mistakes will be made but they are bound to yield something useful.

There are times when being silent is important, allowing the chatter within the mind to abate.

Plants in bloom remind us of the good times, but also the sad times, such as is experienced when listening to the mournful sounds of the Drooping Sheaok in the wind.

Plants have developed intimate relationships with other life forms that may act as their eyes and ears. These helpers are of course rewarded for their services and the lives of animals, including humans, cannot be separated from those of plants.

We should promote a culture of reverence to all living things and the bounty provided by plants should to be acknowledged on a regular basis. This is something that needs to begin at a young age and the best way to do this is by example.
