Australia has failed to benefit from the mining boom. The proof is with the current budget. Why did Australia not move to aggressively expropriate profits from international conglomerates by installing legislation that would demand local communities, buisnesses etc take an active part in the mining buisness? I have been sickened to read about the deception of Andrew Forrester to local Aboriginal communities. I have been appalled by the huge profits that leave Australia to sit in the colonial armchairs of London based BHP offices. South Africa through its mining charter demands that local communities take a 21 % stake in the operations of mining companies.
