lest we really forget

Some of the comments today I find rather disturbing; there appears to be an effort by some to trivialise the sacrifice by many as some sort of ploy or game played by the rich and powerful at the expense of the poor.

Michael Leunigs cowardly piece was only one of them, its inconceivable how many in todays society remain ignorant of the higher purpose at stake.

You only have to look at the IRA blowing up Lord Mountbatten to see how evil does not discriminate.

Ponder this; at the Nuremberg Trials, Eichmann's deputy Dieter Wisliceny (executed later as a war criminal) testified:

The Mufti was one of the initiators of the systematic extermination of European Jewry and had been a collaborator and adviser of Eichmann and Himmler in the execution of this plan. ... He was one of Eichmann's best friends and had constantly incited him to accelerate the extermination measures. I heard him say, accompanied by Eichmann, he had visited incognito the gas chamber of Auschwitz.

What was the name of the Mufti?

    Haj Muhammed Amin al-Husseini

When Germany fell in 1945 , Husseini escaped to Egypt where he received a heroÕs welcome.

Although Yugoslavia tried extraditing him for war crimes, with the Egyptian help he never had to face prosecution

Husseini sponsored the following actions from his safe "exile" in Egypt:

*1948 war against the new State of Israel

*Assassination of King Abdullah in 1951 (Abdullah failed to appoint Husseini as the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem)

*Appointing his nephew Mohammed Abdel-Raouf Arafat a.k.a. Qudwa al-Hussaeini a.k.a. Yasser Arafat as the new leader of the radical nationalist Palestinian organization.
