The company employs 18,000 plus Australians ,many who are young and ambitious - it is not their fault this is happening.They pay taxes which most probably contributes to some form of assistance you would be receiving.
Given their presence in Australia over the past 20 odd years , airfares have been kept in check .
Irrespective of their shareholder ownership the government needs to work with Virgin to keep these real jobs and give every Australian the ability to have a choice and keep the industry competitive.
This is not about favours , if need be, the majority shareholders can be negotiated out for a nominal price or face getting nothing .Perhaps Delta or SQ can come in an take a stake in a restructured Virgin concentrating predominantly on regional ,domestic and minimal international operations ( USA, New Zealand and maybe Japan - all from east coast )
