Ummmmmm, pretty sure that limited international shedule you note as go forward is exactly what caused this mess. VAH was regularly flying to Asia (HK) and LA with 20% of seats filled. International needs to be unwound. Focus on capital cities. SQ takes over after volunatary administration. Recapitalised. Virgin is then operating in a highly profitable domestic oligopoly, with a superior rewards program (KrisFlyer) and global connectivity (via Singapore). Singapore is not going to spend a sent in its current state.
