I am hoping last nights US market sell-off will be seen as an over reaction to S&P giving US debt a negative outlook.

Michael Pascoe writes a good article on smh.com.au in which he says that any mug knew this was going to happen, so he doesn't understand why there was such a sell-off, because it wasn't a surprise.

The sell-off in the rare earth sector tells me one thing- that it is a momentum play for most people investing in it. Most people in the sector are not long term investors. So if there is a stock market correction, all the rare earth companies will get hammered. Conversely, if the market continues to move higher, the rare earth companies will continue to outperform the market

So, if you are in LYC for the long term, you need to have nerves of steel, really and truly believe in the story and be prepared to ride out the volatility
