I believe you are confusing Uran's Pat Ryan with a different Pat Ryan.

I did a search on Pat Ryan when he was at Sky West. This is what they published in an annual report back in 2003. He has also been a Councillor for a local council - surely this experience as Councillor should have groomed him to deal with the public!!
