I think short term gains are usually over $1000-10,000 so even with CGT you can still earn decent $ from your investment, it all depends how much you want to take away, some would consider $300 a day not much while others live off $1500 in profits each week, even with CGT.

I did not mention few other investment strategies like trading on the down turn, and re-accumulating lower, this deducts in your next financial year from some of your CGT so you can actually use negative gearing on longer holds to alleviate higher rates of CGT. A risky strategy as your not guaranteed the share price will rise back up and can result in larger than acceptable losses.
