    With all due respect to the author, it doesn't say the same to me as it obviously is for others.

    Firstly he chose to join the army, unlike many before him who were drafted and had no choice.

    Secondly, it seems he would have been fine with killing Afghans but not Iraqis, perhaps even just a whinge that he wasn't deployed where he wanted to be.

    The US shouldn't have been in Vietnam or Korea either, much more savage conflicts.

    He keeps saying I did not join the army to do this or that, I just wanted to attack Afghanistan.

    Don't read more into it than what I posted, not condoning Iraq, not a fan of Bush/Cheney etc.

    He should make peace with himself at this stage.
