Although I appreciate the point you are making, there is more to consider than solely the car's emissions.
Renewable energy available for Oslo is not the same as renewable energy available for Australia.
Renewables such as solar and wind power pale immensely compared to hydro and thermal power.
The solar power initiative in Australia would not survive without government funding. It is inefficient and ironically, poses an environmental hazard at the end of its life.

Dependence on electricity is rising and a more environmentally friendly solution for Australia's electricity needs will be nuclear energy. A country wide ban is being questioned and I suspect and hope that there will be reform this year regarding the ban.
