Hard to find up to date info quickly, but if LFP is 70% as energy dense as NMC and costs 55% as much kwHr for kwHr then replacing an NMC battery with an LFP one of the same physical size (which is the constraint in a car) will cost 0.7 x 0.55 as much = 0.385. ie 61.5% less. If the battery is about half the cost of the car then this is an enormous saving. But the mileage per charge would be 30% less.
So maybe they will push it for short distance commuting. I wouldn't bet the farm on cobalt if I had one but I think it has a future regardless as it is the metal of choice in numerous situations and a lot of the others are motivated by trying to work around its price.
