It’s a bit of a win win for BHP to stay out of Li. They have only just done merger with Woodside so it would not b a good look to BHP/ Woodside investors to go chasing a competing commodity.
It will also result in a longer lag time in capital investment in Li projects resulting in a longer squeeze in Li supply for EVs which should keep the Li price up for longer and therefore keep EV prices elevated making the EV take up slower and therefore keep oil demand higher for longer for ICE vehicles.
Whatever the case, the longer it takes for these big guys to get their Li act together the better for our little AGY.
