Governors Sáenz and Jalil signed the agreement that will promote the initiative. It seeks to combine public and private efforts to enhance the development of the area with road infrastructure works in the Los Andes (Salta) and Antofagasta de la Sierra (Catamarca) departments. In order to generate employment, encourage investments and strengthen regional identity, Governors Gustavo Sáenz and Raúl Jalil signed an agreement to create the Tourist Mining corridor in the Los Andes departments in Salta and Antofagasta de la Sierra in Catamarca, developing the road infrastructure."It is social and political responsibility to leave this legacy of connectivity to the future," the Governor stressed, highlighting the presence of more than 20 mining companies who also made a commitment to join the initiative of both governments."This agreement is the synergy between governments and companies to improve transit in our Puna that will benefit traffic for mining, tourism and in addition to community services," Governor Jalil said. The leaders stressed the importance of sustainable tourism and mining development "as a key factor for the economic and social promotion of the territory."Thus, regional integration strategies continue to be articulated that result in the optimisation of infrastructure that connects the peoples, provides security conditions and contributes to the improvement of the quality of life of their citizens, promoting economic development through mining activity. In addition, this corridor will respond to the requests and needs of the local and native communities of the Los Andes and Antofagasta de la Sierra departments. The objective is to promote the realisation and maintenance of road infrastructure, communication and social works of public utility, with public-private participation in financing. It aims to promote sustainable and responsible tourism in the region and the development of mining and local and native communities of the areas of influence of mining projects. Therefore, the provinces will develop a project in which the private sector participates through mining companies and their suppliers, to achieve the necessary articulation for the growth of the region. In this way, the Salta and Catamarca road organisations will develop a strategic plan for the projection, cost estimation, evaluation of possible stages and execution deadlines, and promotion of the Salta-Catamarca Tourist Mining Corridor, including the identification of sites of interest, the improvement and / or creation of adequate infrastructure. This agreement will allow working with the national Government to enhance the tourist region of Salta Puna de los Andes through the Natural Route program for the development of infrastructure that favours two of the most important economic activities for Salta, such as tourism and mining. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Salta has been making efforts with the national Government, on which the Natural Route program depends, to generate executive infrastructure projects needed by the municipalities of San Antonio de los Cobres and Tolar Grande. This will allow these communities to grow and develop. The signing of the Act of the Agreement was made within the framework of the International Seminar: Lithium in the South American Region that is based in Salta. Also attending was Lieutenant Governor Antonio Marocco; the national secretaries of Energy of Flavia Royón and of Mining Fernanda Ávila; the ministers of Tourism and Sports Mario Peña; of Production and Sustainable Development Martín de los Ríos; the mayor of Catania of Antofagasta; the secretary of Mining and Energy of Salta, Romina Sassarini, officials of both provinces and executives of mining companies.
