I think it's actually a big misconception. Usually the price in the west is based on Chinese spot price but delayed like 12 months.
12 months ago you saw Chinese spot price at an all time high.
So it makes sense if the price in the west is higher now than it was last year because the west price is based on the Chinese spot price peak.
If you look at every graph correlated with west pricing and Chinese pricing you will see it aaaaalways follows.
Why do you think Jerko was so keen on the idea of potentially selling on the Chinese spot market before? Because the west prices take 12 months to catch up. So for those first 12 months the Chinese spot price was actually higher.
I will concede that the contract price in the west is higher than Chinese contract price usually though.
Only correcting this because people said the same thing last time in 2018/2019 and investors gained this misconception that west prices were immune to the market dynamics of the Chinese. We're never safe from that...
