Having a reliable, renewable source of power that is commercially viable for the buyer and seller has more than an element of sense to it. Gas might be commercially viable in the short term but it won't be in the long term.
Economically, it has always been a shot in the foot. You can plant a gazillion trees to "offset" your pollution but it will always be more efficient to use energy that is blowing past Earth 24/7 than utilise energy that has taken millions of years to produce and will never be available again in our lifetimes, and that destroys our atmosphere in the process.
Commerce is about today, economics is about tomorrow.
