I understand where you’re coming from and somewhat agree. However, the key difference between luxury ICE cars and EV’s is that the ICE vehicle’s power train/drive train doesn’t form a large structural component of the vehicle.

In a side or rear impact collision of an ICE vehicle, there’s every chance that the power train is unaffected. Similar impacts on EV’s can easily cause the battery pack to need replacement, at which point you’re looking at a write-off of tens of thousands in repairs.

It just comes down to simple design. The larger the power source is, and the closer it is to the extremities of the vehicle, the more vulnerable it is to damage.
