The Mining Authority advances in the coordination program with international organizations dedicated to the geological study of salt flats. Together with the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), a collaboration agreement is planned, which is added to others of the same size.

The Ministry of Mining and Energy has established ties with the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) with a view to signing an agreement that promotes sustainable management in salt flats.

In a meeting between the coordinator of the Ministry of Mining and Energy, Juan José Martínez and the general director of Mining Luciana Cerúsico with David Purkey and Sebastián Aedo, members of the Swedish entity, the focus was on the application of the SEI management program in the Salar de Atacama in Chile, seeking to extrapolate this experience in the Salar de Pastos Grandes in Salta.

David Purkey, SEI Regional Director for Latin America, shared the progress of the initiative, which focuses on promoting responsible mining in the context of the energy transition.

The approach is to replicate the management models applied in Chile, involving mining companies, local communities, and authorities in participatory planning. In addition, the potential of the Province of Salta as an area of intervention in this joint effort with the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida) was highlighted.

Purkey highlighted the relevance of multinational cooperation in regional finance issuance projects and detailed the strategy that seeks to promote responsible mining practices and compliance with legislation and human rights commitments.

The project is part of the responsible production of key minerals for the energy transition, such as lithium, and aims to replicate the successful experience of similar work carried out in the Salar de Atacama in Salta, particularly in the Salar de Pastos Grandes.

This initiative is linked to the guidelines of axes 5 and 7 of the Provincial Plan for Sustainable Mining Development 2030, seeks to strengthen the balance of water basins and promote the active participation of local communities.

Likewise, a contribution is projected to the development of agricultural producers in the Community of Santa Rosa de Pastos Grandes.

The round of meetings for the agreement also provides for the articulated participation of the secretariats of Water Resources, Environment and Indigenous Affairs
