Yeah I could imagine the range anxiety. It's interesting that you found that, even in a country with over 15x times the amount of chargers that we have here in Australia (in a smaller area too). An hour to charge is crazy. Throw in the massive wait times if you're in line... The tech isn't there yet, even with "fast charging". And so like you said, EV's for the time being will stay, for the most part, as a personal vehicle or a short-distant run-around car. Maybe for the retiree or soccer-mum who has time on their hands and want to be seen as trendy.

Time is money, and although it's already been shown you don't save a whole lot more choosing an EV over an ICE as it is, charging times alone makes it more expensive to run in the grand scheme of things. Case by case, of course.
