News Flash: ICE vehicles also struggle in the cold!
Rob, read the comments section of that electrek article and you'll find:
- Quite a few of those Tesla's may not have set the supercharger as destination in navigation, preventing battery pre-conditioning (eg locals who know the station location). The cars have to spend time heating the pack (using more energy) before they could begin charging, thus appearing to be dead / or in fact draining the remaining charge.
- Those cold temps weren't an issue for many using home/wall chargers
- Others experiencing similar temps in Europe did not experience any 'dead robots'
- Many ICE owners can't even start their vehicle at those temperatures
Pooh's link to an under-building, yet open station andthis one show that charging infrastructure may evolve to more protected/indoor stations, particularly in those areas where extreme temperatures are an issue. The loads and temperatures obviously pose a few engineering hurdles for this infrastructure to work consistently without fire risk.

Shows the value of home EV charging, a garage to keep the vehicle warmer, and maybe the value of reconsidering your travel in such conditions .
Also IMO symptomatic of the modern I Want It All, and I want it now ten year old kid mentality of many who are reluctant to change their behaviour to help the planet (and themselves) by doing things a little differently. BTW, I do wish the Tier 1 partner in the wings would take all of AGY's product, and now .
