The waste is loaded with heavy metals and the biggest players like Wangxiawo (CATL) and Mine 414 (Yichun Tantalum and Niobium Mine Co. Ltd) store it in big tailings dams. Many of the rest don't even do that. There is no viable disposal pathway available to handle the colossal volume of lithium 'slag' and it's just piling up. Little surprise the government is starting to take notice as these mountains grow.
