Yes, models are the holly grail.
Whilst some minor adjustments can be done to valuations using multiples, I've never seen an M&A or Project Finance transaction without the corresponding model underpinning the price. Models are scrutineered to death by way of running scenarios, cases and sensitivities (not to mention also audited if lenders are involved)
Basically, without a model you are bidding blind
