But what baffles me is that car manufacturers do not live in a bubble. They go to trade fairs and automobile shows, they have JVs with competitors, a presence in the supply chain, advisors, strategics, marketers...
Eg.: how could VW try to commercialize their new iD3 EV platform in China when there was no chance they would be competitive? Now they are trying defensive arguments spreading fears in their home markets to the "made in China" mark, try to downplay the increasingly big benefits of EVs while bracing to survive in the market selling PHEV.
And wrt PHEVs, I am going to laugh so much in 10 years when I start reading testimonies like: "I paid a premium for a battery that can barely move the car around the block and still I must replace the clutch next month".
