The BOM had no data collection points in many such rural areas many years ago. The temps I am quoting were measured by local residents in specific locations. I have experienced minus seven, measured on my own thermometer, in that location in the 1990's. The minus 14 was recorded back in the seventies. Minus 7 was wicked. You had to cover your face just to breathe or the air burnt your airways. Icicles several centimetres long hung from the tin verandah roof until about 9am.
