I was asking how parliament would function as you asked of me.... what difference would sortition selected MPs make to the functioning of the two Houses?

while its good to define the initial difference in selection of members, its how they might function as members that will make all the difference.

sortition selection would result in a broad mix of personalities who had no desire or expectations for being members of parliament. so how would they function? would they come together in factions or even form voting blocs (parties?). how do you envisage the roles of Minsters? how to deal with those unfamiliar with the requirements of Parliament? would sortition selected MPs propose bills or amendments?

with independent members winning elections you have people who are inclined and knowledgeable of parliamentary functions, with sortition there would be some who know nothing and may be reluctant, or even incapable, to do "parliamentary" work.

first ------ I think in any system of people where decisions are made in discussion - there will be groups form, no matter what the system - chiefdoms, kingdoms, communism, democracy - anything

second - if we had such a massive change in system to sortition

I'm not even certain that I'd have 2 houses

Many places have very different systems - France has Parliament - and Government - 2 very different things,
on top of that lot is the President - who has such power that it's described as having a King (with power)

then, there's the Council of nine ---------------- the Constitutional Council

that sits over new laws and such to make sure they are constitutional - they are not elected, they are selected.

I'm not locked in - set in cement on many things that I'd like to see

but, I do think that government by location is a good idea - I'd like to be rid of federation and the states - and if we can ditch the election system totally AND ban lobbying -

then, I think we'd have the bones of a better system - naturally there'd be a lot of details
