Dave - gst is payed on all expenditure (basically) so it doesn't matter what products go up or down - it's based on total spend.
The GST was fought all along by the opposition - Keating won an election based on it and they always knew it was needed. Keating in particular behaved hypocritically "if you don't understand it don't vote for it"
