''I didn't realize Burke, Wills, Sturt, Leichhardt, Stuart, Mitchell, Wentworth etc were Afghan cameleers who opened up the country''

of course you didn't realise these things dear ----------------- many famous Ozzie explorers used cameleers -------

without camels - they would have gone precisely nowhere near where they went -------

you can check this if you wish, in doing so, you might learn a bit about the Australia that you live in, assuming you do. -

    1. Robert O'Hara Burke and William John Wills: The Victorian Government appointed George James Landells to purchase 24 camels in India for use in desert exploration. The animals arrived in Melbourne in June 1860, and the Exploration Committee purchased an additional six from George Coppin's Cremorne Gardens. The expedition set off from Royal Park, Melbourne at about 4 pm on 20 August 1860, with 26 camels being taken on the expedition.
    2. J.A. Horrocks: The first camel imported into Australia was purchased by the explorer J.A. Horrocks, who unfortunately died after being kicked. This marked an early instance of camel use in Australian exploration

John should have listened closer to a cameleer that day.
4.Thomas Elder: Thomas Elder was a great supporter of exploration in inland Australia and financed several expeditions that used camels. These expeditions included those led by other explorers who utilized camels for their journeys
