finnet - your view of what is "right wing" and what is "centrist" clearly depends on your starting point.

You state you are a Greens' supporter which suggests your starting point is way out in left field.

Turnbull was dumped because his social policy views are too close to those of Labor. Abbott managed to win back core support. I don't know that the Libs really need advice from those on the other side of politics to survive - indeed, Abbott was a hairs-breadth from an historic victory. In any event the turnaround he engineered since November makes him Australia's most successful Opposition Leader ever.

The crunch for the Greens will come next election depending on the circumstances in which it comes about. If this govt is unstable - which looks likely - many of those who parked votes with the Greens will likely re-assess. Certainly someone like Brandt cannot rely on Lib preferences again; and if the ALP has any sense it will recognise that the Greens are their version of One Nation to the Libs. They need a strategy to gut the competition as Abbott did to ON.

The real turning point is when Brown retires which can't be far off. There is a risk it is a movement built around one man like the Democrats/Chipp. Certainly they have no sensible policies to fall back on and personalities to replace the urbane Dr Bob are lacking. Hanson-Young looks like an extra from Lord of the Rings and has policies equally as scary as the Orcs. So let's see.
