i dont understand the system well enough to know the effects of the preferences. you are right though, the left is fragmented as they are united in opposition to the incumbent rather than united in support of an viable alternative. there is an undercurrent of discontent against the liberals and disillusionment with our democracy. as skrwej2 mentions, in our entire parliament why is there only 1 man who is not to scared to stand up and say that 'the emperor is wearing no clothes'.
