    @zipperlip; there's nothing much in that post which differs from my sentiments!

    One of the major factors leading to WW1 and to WW2 was the formation of power blocs with the USA refusing to take a role until it was apparent where its best interests lie and in 1942 after Japan opportunistically attacked it for being smug, lazy and corrupt.

    So what do we see today, history is repeating itself!

    Bully boys on all sides have hair standing up on the back of their necks and then there's the Trump factor and what he's really doing behind the scenes with Xi and Putin - would you bet your life that he's not cutting sweetheart deals and not covering up by claiming its commercial-in-confidence or a national security matter?

    When China and Russia go after whistle-blowers and journalists we respond with, "See, I told you they're rotten mongrels!", but when Australia and the US do it to the likes of Dan Oakes and to Julian Assange it's in the national interest and the rotten mongrels are the whistle-blowers and the journalists.
