Thank you for the suggestion. I think that the unilateral decisions for extra judicial killings should be of concern to right minded people of all political leanings.
I should not have started this in an adversarial way by refering to rent a crowds. I was driven by what appears to be a hypocritical lack of comment from those who were critical of other military interventions by the US.
I am normally very supportive of US values of freedom, rule of law and democracy. There is a great deal to admire in the US Declaration of Independence. However my faith has been shaken since Abu Grahib prison.
I can't easily accept that one country can take to itself the right to kill people with no legal process or right of appeal. This is what has happened today in Libya, there is no pretense about protecting civilians, it was assasination.
Similarly I can understand but am concerned about the extrajudicial kill list. There is no involvement of the judicial arm of government. If someone is on this list they won't know and can't appeal, there is no formal process to be put on the list. Once on it you can be killed by the US anywhere anytime. While understandable it has the potential for mistake and abuse.
