There's competition in Lidar aquisition. AMX happen to be efficient in capture and delivery compared to other players in the market.

AMX purchased Rockhampton based company 'Atlass', a few years ago, and absorbed those operations under the Aerometrex-Atlass banner, and eventually merged under the one Aerometrex name.

Under AMX stewardship, the PTY LTD board injected new Lidar systems & additional aircraft during 2017/2018 & 2018/2019, allowing the company to expand from what was originally South East Queensland / Northern NSW focussed operations and opportunities under Atlass, to a more opportunistic Australia wide footprint under Aerometrex.

Lidar is commonly used for forestry and mining, however, the technology in and of itself, is not capable of bushfire prediction. It takes analysis and periodic capture to develop a sense of fuel load and scrub conditions.

However: post fire is a very good time for Lidar Digital Terrain Modelling, as the reduced tree canopies allow laser penetration to the ground better than found in normally unburnt natural environments.

On a related note: AMX's 4-band Visual Near Infrared photogrammetric has historically used for bushfire damage assessments. I would not be surprised if AMX's 4-band capabilities are employed for the motioned bushfire Royal Commission, as had been done for the 2009 Victorian Bushfires.
