Outspoken senator Lidia Thorpe is expected to announce she will quit the Greens and move to the crossbench, The Guardian reports.

She is expected to inform the Greens partyroom of her resignation later today.

Senator Thorpe wants to become the “leader of the black sovereignty movement” but was unable to do so as a member of a political party, the report said.

This comes after questions were raised as to whether Senator Thorpe could remain as the Greens' First Nations spokesperson after she disagreed with the party's not yet official support for the voice to parliament.
