It is not simply a matter of having a buy and hold strategy!
It is important that you have clarity of how you wish to invest and on what basis your decisions are made. (Is why I mentioned posts over last few months as they seemed to be all over the place but mainly very short term)
If you are analytical and understand financials you will possibly prefer looking at fundamentals and your decisions will be on how the company is performing whereas someone educated in technical analysis will be very focused on SP movements and have specific rules for entry and exit on trends or percentage rules etc.
Taking profits is fine however without some sort of discipline you will be expending a lot of effort for little amounts and possibly missing out on bigger profits along the way while also crystalising your tax position and costs.
Trading of course is another matter and turning over parcels of shares for a few pips any profit can easily be wiped out by one bad result. (Most retail traders struggle to make any decent money)
Building wealth is the name of the game and turning over shares for a few hundred bucks is just playing at the edges, but preserving capital is also very important and is why objectivity is essential
Of course you also have to be aware of the overall market, including the sector and perhaps have different rules if you delve into the spec end of town.....
Best to shut out all of the white noise around shares you are interested in, including HC favourites like "manipulation" and the obligatory fixation on shorters!!
