Lets see what effect dear old Ras (Putin) will have over the long term. Germany will suffer as they have a chronic dependency on Russian gas and oil. And that's the worry. Germany is the only economy in EU which actually produces in a meaningful way.
Also interesting to see how much longer he will have the support of his oligarchs once the sanctions start to bite on their lifestyles and finances.
As for banks here, barring any regulatory SNAFUs and management F-ups they should bubble along in line with the economy. I'm trying to see how the Ukraine invasion will effect us in a significantly negative way. So far nothing comes to mind.
So as the economy goes up, so too do the banks. Which is why I feel that $25 by EOFY is not an unrealistic target. Especially as we're staring down the barrel of interest rate rises.
As for the strategy of buying into dividend paying stocks a couple of months earlier and then selling before dividend record date, I've heard of people who do this and claim success. But is sure seems like a lot of effort to eke out a few extra cents a share. And in between you've got a few months of worrying about the possibility of a SP collapse just like what happened to this lot.
As for me, I am now a long term investor who only buys for yield for my SMSF. Boring, I know, but it keeps enough cat food in the cupboard for my feline masters.
